Excellent Adventures: Miami with Didier Young
Bather: Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Didier: My name is Didier Young and I am a Toronto-based lifestyle content creator. I originally moved to Toronto to attend George Brown’s Baking and Baking Arts Management course after which I ended up becoming a pastry chef for almost five years. I fully made the switch to content creation a couple of years ago and I couldn’t be happier about it!
B: Where did you go for your Excellent Adventure? Did you travel with anyone?
D: I went to Miami along with some of my closest friends (who are also content creators) and my heartmate.
B: So, why Miami?
D: As content creators, we often get the opportunity to travel on press trips but we realized that we’ve never had the chance to all go on a trip at the same time! Miami was on Joëlle’s bucket list and we had all been craving some sun after the long Canadian winter/spring, so we spontaneously booked a trip and headed over to the Sunshine State two weeks later.
B: Where did you stay?
D: We stayed in South Beach at a beautiful small hotel called The Plymouth. It was a 3-minute walk to the beach, a 10-minute walk to the Lincoln Road mall, and had a pool that was open 24/7. We couldn’t have asked for a better location.
B: Describe your trip. What did you do? What did you explore?
D:The first two days were dedicated to a lot of content creation. We headed over to Wynwood Walls which was such a spectacular experience and we checked out the Miami Design District which was my absolute favourite area of the city. South Beach was lovely to spend time in as well. Miami somehow felt like you headed over to an exotic tropical location even though it was only a 3-hour flight from Toronto.
B: Any advice for anyone thinking of traveling to Miami?
D: I’d definitely recommend going at another time of the year, haha! We pretty much got there in the dead-heat of summer and it was HOT. I’d probably head back there during the Canadian winter.
I also think that we often only think of South Beach when we think of Miami but the downtown core of the city is quite lovely as well! We went to Brickell and it was a completely different vibe from the beach area.
B: How would you describe your trip in 5 words?
D: Humid. Fun. Colourful. Tasty. Engaged.
