Inspiration: Huicholes at TMC

Last week, we visited the Textile Museum of Canada to checkout their latest exhibit, Huicholes – A People Walking Towards the Light, searching for new designs and inspiration for our upcoming collections.

Huicholes – A People Walking Towards the Light showcases the art and way of life of the Huicholes, a group native to western Mexico. The exhibit featured vibrant yarn paintings, textiles, and artifacts which are all a part of the Huicholes' rich history which goes back 15,000 years. This exhibition included the yarn paintings of José Benítez Sánchez (1938-2009), who is a celebrated Huichol artist. His art expresses central themes and messages in Huichol mythology and represents their relationship to geography, like the ocean, the mountains, and the desert.
